April - Being open to new beginnings.

The name April comes to us from the Latin Aprilis, from the verb aperire, "to open". This month is sacred to the goddess Venus, also known as Aphrodite in Greek; the goddess of love, beauty, desire, fertility, prosperity and victory.

April is the month when nature awakens from its winter slumber and the trees and flowers open their gifts to the world: flowers of splendid color and a multitude of oxygen giving leaves.

In the cycle of human activity, it is the time of the year to commit to new changes and launch new endeavors. To creating the life we desire. To opening ourselves up to giving our gifts to the world.

Steps one can take to make this happen:

  • Connect with nature: go for a walk, garden, bird watch
  • Connect with yourself: meditate, journal, exercise
  • Connect with your community: volunteer, organize trash pick-up, be with just one person you know who is lonely and desires company

Each one of us is not an island in ourselves but a piece in the larger fabric of the human family, and ultimately, of all of nature. We cannot flourish in this world alone.

As you connect with the universe you will find that success and prosperity will follow. Your hands cannot accept the bounty of new ventures if they continue to hold onto the past. Make a point today to be bold, be brave, be courageous as you take action in making the changes you committed to making this year.
