Collection: Opscurus

The Opscurus series name was created from the combination of the two Latin words opticus "of sight or seeing" and obscurus "dark, dusky, shady". This series is serendipity come to full fruition. A completely non-representational, beautiful study of tone and texture.

Matteo photographs with several old cameras that leak light in unforeseen ways. After developing a test roll of film from one of these cameras Matteo found a frame with an image that was completely unexplainable. It wasn't of a subject that he had knowingly photographed and indeed, of anything recognizable. The image had a range of tones and textures that were incredible, the best on the entire roll. This led him to rethink the very idea of what is considered a successful image and a new series was born.
