Printed with an image of the 1979 version of the Gay Pride Flag. The sides are printed in the Hot Pink color that adorned the original flag but was removed in 1979 due to the scarce availability of pink fabric at the time. We use it here for it's original symbolic representation for sex, but more importantly because it was a dropped color.
So many individuals who do not identify with gender and sexual norms are "dropped" out of our society. Pushed to the side as not deserving of inclusion, not allowed to participate because of fear and bigotry. This simple canvas is a visual representation for the LGBTQ+ individual with the classic Pride Flag out, front and center bringing attention to the true self for all to see. The pink sides remind us that there are still those living on the sidelines, in the shadows needing encouragement and a safe place to be themselves.
"The rainbow flag, also known as the gay pride flag or simply pride flag, is a symbol of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) pride and LGBT social movements. The colors reflect the diversity of the LGBT community and the spectrum of human sexuality and gender. Using a rainbow flag as a symbol of gay pride began in San Francisco, California, but eventually became common at LGBT rights events worldwide. Originally devised by artist Gilbert Baker, Lynn Segerblom, James McNamara and other activists, the design underwent several revisions after its debut in 1978, and continues to inspire variations" en.wikipedia.org
