Printed with an image of the Progress Pride Flag we chose to use Hot Pink for the sides. It was a color that adorned the original Gay Pride Flag but was removed in 1979 due to the scarce availability of pink fabric at the time. We use it here for it's original symbolic representation for sex, but more importantly because it was a dropped color.
So many individuals who do not identify with gender and sexual norms are "dropped" out of our society. Pushed to the side as not deserving of inclusion, not allowed to participate because of fear and bigotry. This simple canvas is a visual representation for the any proud LBGTQ+ individual with the pride flag out, front and center bringing attention to the true self for all to see. The pink sides remind us that there are still those living on the sidelines, in the shadows needing encouragement and a safe place to be themselves.
"When the Pride flag was recreated in 2017 and 2018 to include both black/brown stripes, as well as the trans stripes, I wanted to see if there could be more emphasis in the design of the flag to elevate its message. This new design forces the viewer to reflect on their own feelings towards the original Pride flag and its meaning as well as the differing opinions on who that flag really represents, while also bringing into clear focus the current needs within our community. You can’t avoid the message as it is right there in front of you." - Progress Pride Flag designer Daniel Quasar. Quasar Digital
